When I think of the Fourth of July, picnics and family gatherings come to mind. It seems to be the American way to celebrate Independence Day.
While I had hoped to find some recipes that included strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or cherries–all fruits that are in season in July where I live–I couldn’t find any except berry-flavored Jell-O recipes in My Mother’s Recipe Box. I came across a lot of recipes for bananas, apricots, and dates, however, which I will eventually share!
But for the Fourth, I thought some good old-fashioned brownies sounded like one of the most American recipes you could make to celebrate our independence. And I couldn’t resist throwing in my Great Aunt Lily’s Chocolate Eclairs and a recipe for Caramel Custard, which you can complement with some fresh berries!
Enjoy some sweets this weekend during our celebration of freedom!
